I continue to share the library of scripts that I have been compiling over fifteen years of work in the industry.
Title: batchCamSnaps — batch viewport screenshots per camera
Briefly: batchCamSnaps takes viewport screenshots for each selected camera — optionally over a specified range of frames. The tool is convenient when you need to quickly capture the camera layout, submit an animatic preview, or document a scene without launching a full render.
Installation:
1. Drag the .ms file into the viewport or select Scripting > Run Script — the dialog will open immediately.
2. Copy the file to the scripts/startup folder — the script will load automatically each time 3ds Max is started.
3. To assign hotkeys, open Customize > Customize User Interface, find the MyTools category, and assign the macros BatchCamSnaps_Dialog and BatchCamSnaps_RunLast to toolbar buttons or hotkeys. The second macro is especially useful for repeated batches without opening the UI.
Functionality:
Before each capture, the script maximizes the active viewport (similar to Alt+W), hides the grid and safe frames, takes a snapshot, and then fully restores the original state of the scene, selection, and viewport.
Results are saved in PNG with a customizable filename template. All settings are stored in an INI file and restored upon the next launch.
When capturing via getViewportDib, the final resolution depends on the actual size of the 3ds Max window on the screen.
The batch can be interrupted by pressing Esc.
Upon completion of the batch, a report dialog opens with a list of processed cameras, the status of each frame, and overall statistics.
Compatibility: 3ds Max 2016 and higher.
