I continue to share the tool library that I have been collecting over fifteen years of working in the industry.

Name: edgeSelectByAngle — selects edges by face-normal angle

Briefly: The script selects edges of a polygonal mesh based on the angle between the normals of adjacent faces. It is convenient for quickly finding sharp edges for beveling: just set the angle range, and all suitable edges will be selected in one step. It works with Editable Poly and Edit_Poly modifier, supporting simultaneous operation with multiple objects.

Installation:
1. Drag the .ms file into the viewport or run it via Scripting > Run Script — the window will open immediately.
2. For constant access, copy the file to the scripts/startup folder — the script will load automatically when Max starts.
3. Open Customize > Customize User Interface, find the MyTools category — there will be two macros: edgeSelectByAngleUI and edgeSelectByAngleApply. Assign them to toolbar buttons or hotkeys.

Functionality:
The floating window opens with the edgeSelectByAngleUI macro or via Run Script.

Low — the lower boundary of the angle range in degrees. Edges with an angle between the normals of adjacent faces below this value are ignored.

High — the upper boundary of the range. Edges with an angle above this value are also excluded from selection.

Do — performs edge selection on the selected objects with the current Low and High values immediately.

Apply — applies the selection and keeps the window open for further work.

Help — displays a brief help on using the tool directly in the listener or in a pop-up message.

SaveDef — saves the current Low and High values as default in an ini file. The next time the script runs, it will load these values.

The edgeSelectByAngleApply macro applies the selection immediately with the saved default values, without opening the window — convenient as a hotkey for pipeline work with bevels.

The script processes all selected objects in one run. Face normals are cached in advance, providing a noticeable speed boost on dense meshes with hundreds of thousands of edges. There are no external dependencies — sLib is not required.

Compatibility: 3ds Max 2009 and above
