Versions: opens scenes 3ds Max 2019-2027 and saves them in any earlier version, up to 2018. The 3ds Max itself is not needed for the translation.
What it does
The program for Windows translates the .max file into the format of an older version of 3ds Max: from 2026 to 2024, from 2027 to 2018, and so on. The translation goes step by step through each version, the original file does not change. You can add several files at once or an entire folder along with nested folders: drag into the window or use the "Add Folder" button. If a file with that name already exists, the program asks what to do with it. Before translation, the program shows the file passport: version, render, and plugins needed by the recipient. After translation, it writes comments: what has changed in the scene and what should be checked. The interface is in Russian and English, the language can be switched in the header of the window.
Limitations
1. Data from Corona, V-Ray, and other plugins are transferred as is. The recipient must have the same version of the plugin or newer: a scene from Corona 14 will not open in the old Corona 12. The program indicates what version is needed.
2. New features Slice, Symmetry, and Edit Poly from 3ds Max 2022 and newer are not supported in version 2021. The program names such objects by their names.
3. The earliest version that the program translates to is 2018. It does not translate to 2017 or older.
4. Files newer than 2027 are not accepted by the program.
5. Windows 11, 64-bit. It does not run on Windows 7.
Network and windows
The program does not send anything to the internet. Upon each launch, it shows a small window with the author's contact information. The "Don't show again" checkbox disables it, the contacts remain under the "Contacts" button.
Installation and removal
Nothing is installed: run MaxConverter.exe. The program does not have a digital signature, so Windows may show a warning; what to click is written in the instructions. To remove, delete the exe and the folder %LOCALAPPDATA%\MaxConverter.
