Bird feeders (3D printing)

The feeder can be 3D printed and made in two versions:
- for attachment to a window using suction cups and a safety rope (window_bird_feeder_base.stl, window_bird_feeder_perche.stl)
- for attachment to a tree using a rope (tree_bird_feeder_base.stl, tree_bird_feeder_perche.stl)

Recommendations and tips for 3D printing:

File Format: STL
Material: PETG plastic
Layer Thickness (Layer Height): 0.1 - 0.2 mm
Filling (Infill): 15%
Number of walls (Wall Line Count): 2
Number of Top Layers: 6
Number of Bottom Layers: 6
Supports: Not required

Birds are sensitive to certain colors, some attract them, others scare them away, for example, the green color of birds definitely does not scare them away, since it is the color of foliage. I recommend either printing with green PETG plastic immediately, or printing with white plastic, and then painting in green.
You can paint according to the scheme: degreaser, primer, matte acrylic paint, matte varnish.

Average consumption of plastic for printing one feeder: 240-270 grams

The feeder consists of three parts: a base and two perches.
There is only one perch in the STL file, so the second one needs to be cloned, for example, in the Slicer program "Creality Print" this is an option in the toolbar: "Others - Clone".

To save plastic, decorative windows with lintels are made in the side walls, and in this place bridges are obtained, that is, elements that hang in the air. When printing this element, it is recommended to reduce the printing speed so that the plastic hardens without sagging and the bridges print better. However, you don't have to slow down, it's just an observation.

A printer with a working area of 220 x 220 x 250 mm is recommended for printing.

IMPORTANT: To print the perches for the feeder, which is mounted on a tree (tree_bird_feeder_perche.stl), you need to rotate the model 45 degrees so that it retracts into the workspace.
Also, when printing perches, be sure to use Brim so that the product does not peel off from the desktop during printing. In the Slicer program, "Creality Print" is an option in the print profile settings: "Build Plate Adhesion - Build Plate Adhesion Type: brim".
It is better to glue the finished perches to the base using glue (cyanoacrylate) or dichloromethane.

important: If you attach the feeder to the window, be sure to use a safety rope, although the suction cups can hold it securely enough (if you clean and degrease the glass surface), it is better to insure against accidental fall of the feeder.

important: You can use and modify the model as you like. There are only three restrictions:
- do not resell the 3D model
- do not assign authorship to the 3D model
- follow the rules of the platform from where you download the 3D model (in this case, 3ddd, 3dsky).
Dispose of the finished product (feeder) as you like (use, give, sell), the main thing is that there are more feeders and fewer hungry birds.

However, this 3D model can also be rendered in your projects, so here is the standard description.

Bird feeders with sunflower seeds in them.

Total:
657916 polygons
661464 vertices

The grid is rectangular, without N-gons, the names of materials, textures, objects are English, the texture paths are erased (Strip path).
All parts with a sweep are UVUnwrapped (Mixed).

Archived: materials (.mat), textures, FBX, OBJ, STL, 3D Max scenes 2018 and 2015
In the scene: groups of objects

Modeling - Blender

Those who work in V-Ray versions lower than 3.1 be careful, the materials in the BRDF section contain Microfaset GTR ( GGX), if your version is older than 3.1, then the BRDF field will be empty. Choose Blinn, Phong or Ward, whichever is preferable for you.
