The design, originally developed in 1938, immediately won prizes and awards at exhibitions in Copenhagen, New York and Berlin. It is one of several projects by architect Viggo Boesen that became associated with the 1930s Danish design aesthetic known as the funkis style. It featured a softer, organic aesthetic that challenged the minimalist approach of the Bauhaus. First the chair named after Boesen’s aunt, and later the pouf, are very cute indeed, able to fit into all sorts of spaces and interior styles.
