In my new work, "House by the River," I'm returning to my favorite equatorial motifs. Whether it's our climate that prevents us from warming up properly, or whether it's a call from distant ancestors, such images often appear before my eyes when I sketch.

The title of the work came after it was finished. Initially, I envisioned an abstraction, but after finishing the carving, I saw a small house in the drawing, and then a river. And immediately, I imagined an illustration to some forgotten story: of a warm southern night with its cooling ochre shadows, of cool moonlight tracing intricate patterns on ancient stones, of a mysterious hut by the river where a surprising encounter awaits a traveler.
