ScaleSpan — precise scaling using two points
Adjust the model to the desired size based on one known distance. Select objects or groups, specify two points, and set the required length — ScaleSpan will calculate the coefficient and uniformly change the scale of the entire set.
Suitable for fitting imported furniture, architectural models, drawings, and reference planes.
FEATURES
• Multiple objects and groups in one operation, including nested groups.
• Capture current selection or sequentially select objects.
• Fixed point A — the anchor for scaling.
• Uniform scaling along XYZ while maintaining proportions.
• Measurement of distance in 3D, its projections on XY or on the world axes X, Y, Z.
• Input sizes in millimeters, centimeters, meters, inches, and feet.
• Display of measured length and coefficient before applying.
• Undo operation via Ctrl+Z.
• Launch with a standard button on the toolbar.
HOW TO WORK
1. Select the desired objects or groups and click Capture Selection.
2. Specify point A with the Set Anchor A button and point B with the Set Endpoint B button.
3. Choose the measurement method and units, enter the desired size in Target.
4. Check Measured and Ratio, click SCALE TARGET SET. For precise point selection, use Vertex / Endpoint snapping.
EXAMPLE
You want to adjust a sofa to a width of 2400 mm. Capture the sofa in the set, specify the two outer points across the width, and set Target: 2400, Units: mm. The script will proportionally resize the sofa around point A. If other items are included in the set, they and the distances between them will scale together with the sofa.
INSTALLATION
Drag ScaleSpan_Install.ms into the viewport of 3ds Max. Open Customize > Customize User Interface > Toolbars. In the My Tools category, find ScaleSpan and drag the command onto the toolbar.
FEATURES
Selecting X, Y, Z, or XY determines the measurement method, not the direction of stretching: scaling is always uniform across three axes. Selecting a group element includes the entire outer group. Child objects follow their parents. When changing units, the Target number is retained: check it before applying. After scaling, points A and B need to be set again for the next operation.
COMPATIBILITY AND STATUS
Prepared for 3ds Max 2026 and static architectural scenes. Tested in 3ds Max 2023, 2026, and 2027.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION
Scaling objects and groups using two points and a known size. Fixed anchor, maintaining proportions, five units of measurement, and viewing the coefficient before applying.
