The Grain Cork Collection is a project based on years of research and development, as well as a fascination with the material itself. The Cork Collection is designed primarily to celebrate this extraordinary material. Cork is the outer bark of the cork oak tree, which grows in Mediterranean climates and can live up to 200 years. It is harvested by hand every nine years without harming the tree, making it a rapidly renewable material and a powerful carbon sink. Thanks to the regeneration process, the more bark is harvested from the tree, the more carbon is absorbed. With their work, Grain hopes to create furniture and objects that will be passed down from generation to generation. However, at the end of its life, cork can be reused and is completely biodegradable. Despite its durability and resilience, the treated surfaces feel more like velvet than wood. We see them as supporting elements in family-friendly homes and cozy commercial spaces.
