The Tu-154 is a Soviet and Russian three-engine jet passenger airliner and first-class transport aircraft for medium-haul airlines, designed to carry 152–180 passengers. It was developed in the 1960s in the USSR by the Tupolev Design Bureau.

The first flight of the Tu-154 was performed on October 3, 1968. The aircraft was mass-produced from 1970 to 1998 at the Kuibyshev Aviation Plant, having undergone several upgrades. The rate of production reached five units per month (from 1976 to 1981, an average of more than one aircraft per week was produced, in 1980 - a maximum of 77 aircraft per year).

From 1998 to 2013, small-scale production of Tu-154M aircraft was carried out at the Samara plant "Aviakor". In February 2013, after the release of aircraft No. 998, "Aviakor" announced the end of production of this type of aircraft

The most widely produced Soviet jet passenger aircraft, which remained one of the main aircraft on the country's medium-haul routes until the late 2000s

The Tu-154 is one of the fastest serial passenger airliners in the world with a cruising speed of over 900 km/h
