Wendell Castle is known as the father of artistic furniture. The artist and designer pioneered a new type of craft and sculptural form that blurred the line between art and craft when it emerged in the 1960s. Working with wood, including techniques he developed using laminated wood or hand-carved fiberglass, he creates bold and graceful expressions of pure forms, three-dimensional forms that evoke the body.
