Christophe Pillet's design philosophy can be summed up in a few eloquent words: “I am not on a quest for the extraordinary, but rather for which is beautiful and able to kindle emotion in the ordinary”.
This impassioned exploration of the essence of things is also fully developed in the design of the First Steps chair whose lyric simplicity seems to trace back to the archetypal object-chair.

The sinuous structure that rises to form the metal backrest has a painted finish, while the tightly woven seat material is entirely hand-made in either paper cord or paper rush cord.
Structure in metal with burnished, gun metal finish
