Of all cameras Zenit-E produced in the USSR occupies a special place, because it was the most mass model in its class of single-lens DSLRs. It was produced immediately at two factories of the Soviet Union - at the Krasnogorsk Mechanical Plant KMZ from 1965 to 1982 and at the Belarusian Experimental Mechanical Association BelOMO in Vileika from 1973 to 1988. More than 8 million cameras were produced - 3,334,540 pieces at the KMZ and about 5 million pieces at BelOMO!
New lenses Helios 44-2 2/58 and Industar 50-2 3,5 / 50 mm were used.
A folding back cover was opened to charge the film. It cost this camera with the Helios lens 44-2 hundred rubles, and this is more than the average salary of a Soviet man.
