This modern clock uses material cutouts to depict the numbers in a variety of ways (standard, written, and roman numeral). The purpose of the missing material is to allow the color (s) behind the clock to show through creating a more integrated wall feature. It also features background pieces which can be colored differently than the foreground for more contrast.
