The script highlights the camera through which the active viewport is viewing with a single click.
It is convenient when you need to quickly find and highlight the desired camera in a complex scene without digging through the object list and making unnecessary clicks through the viewport menu.
Works with any type of cameras — Target, Free, Physical, VRay, Corona, and third-party plugins.
Installation:
1. Drag the file SelectActiveCamera.ms directly into the viewport or select Scripting > Run Script and specify the file. The script will load and register two macros in the MyTools category.
2. To make the macros available after restarting, copy the file to the scripts/startup folder of your 3ds Max installation.
3. Assign the macros to buttons on the panel or hotkeys: Customize > Customize User Interface > Toolbars or Keyboard tab > select the MyTools category, find the desired macro, and assign it.
Functionality:
The script registers two independent macros that can be assigned to different buttons or hotkeys.
Select Active Camera — highlights only the camera of the active viewport, without the target.
Select Active Camera + Target — highlights the camera along with its target. If the camera has no target (for example, Free Camera or Physical Camera without a target), only the camera itself is highlighted.
In both cases, the action is recorded in the undo stack with the name Select Camera, so the selection can be undone with the standard Ctrl+Z. All result messages are duplicated in the 3ds Max status bar and in the MAXScript Listener for history.
Compatibility: 3ds Max 2016 and newer.
